Saudi by Roaa: Revving Up the Two Wheel Sisterhood

Wide open roads, stunning scenery, and almost endless good weather it’s almost like Saudi Arabia was made to be explored by motorcycle. Now, in keeping with the growing culture of Saudis embracing clubs, groups, and teams to bring the like-minded together, there’s a new group giving motorcycle life an authentically Saudi edge. Yes, if you follow our videos you’ll know them already, it’s the Sisterhood.MC women’s motorcycle club. We hit the road with its founder, Dr. Roaa Talal Abualsaud.

Q: First up, let’s have a check-up – You’re a doctor… of motorcycles?

No, I’m a dentist by training – but I also get to put a smile on people’s faces by teaching motorcycle riding too as a certified instructor.

Q: Right! That makes sense. Is that how the Sisterhood.MC club began?

That was definitely part of it! I wanted to create a space where women could feel both powerful and supported. For us, motorcycling isn’t just a mode of transport, it’s also about independence, adventure, and camaraderie. We took inspiration from our friends in Brotherhood.MC, including its founder Captain Saud AlBarrak who was a great help in setting up Sisterhood.MC. Since then, we’ve just gone from strength-to-strength as more and more women join. Today, we have 260 active members from across Saudi Arabia and the community is steadily growing, with regular collaborations with riders from other Gulf countries.

Q: So, what does the club do?

We start with everything and anything to do with motorcycles and more. We provide mentorship, safety training, and introductory riding experiences for beginners. We get together to discuss and explore different motorcycle brands and gear, sharing tips and ideas on the best stuff to get and how to ride in style too.  We also organize riding adventures here in Saudi and across borders – we’ve recently done some unforgettable trips to Kuwait and Qatar. And, whatever we’re doing, we ride to inspire, we ride to lead, we ride together.

Q: Sounds amazing! You mentioned ‘and more,’ what does that mean?

So, we host workshops, yoga, fitness classes, fashion events, golf days, we celebrate Saudi national day – It’s not just biking, it’s a community founded on camaraderie.

Q: And what do women need to do to join? Can beginners come along?

Absolutely! In fact, you don’t even need a bike to start off with. We welcome women at all levels, whether you’re an experienced rider, someone considering getting a license, or simply curious about the community. What matters most is a spirit of adventure and we’ll help anyone take that spirit on the road by demystifying the world of motorcycles and making it accessible to anyone and everyone.

Q: And who can join? Is it just Saudis?

Not at all! We’re officially accredited by Saudi Federation of Motorcycles with riders from all over the world, from different nationalities and backgrounds, all united by one passion.

Q: How do you see the role of the club in wider Saudi society?

Riding a motorcycle in Saudi Arabia is more than a hobby — it’s a symbol of choice, strength, and movement. We want to challenge stereotypes both here and abroad about what women, particularly Saudi women, can do. And it’s not just about the club members and other women who might see us out and about riding, it’s also about the future generations. We’re creating a ripple effect for future generations of girls to dream big without limitations.

Q: So, with Sisterhood.MC just hitting cruise, what’s next?

More sisterhood. More drive. And the open road calling! and we’re just getting started. See you on the road.
