Saudi by Khalid: Stories and style across the Kingdom
Saudi’s got style for miles. Pretty much literally according to stylist, content creator, icon Khalid Sodhi who knows how much Saudi styles differ as you travel from one region to another. Here he joins us to give some insight into what makes Saudi so stylish and how he – and others – are taking that style to the next level.
Q: Khalid! It’s great to meet you. Where are you right now?
The Eastern Province – It’s where I’m based and where I’m from. I love it here. We’ve got our own vibe going, our story, and our look too. In fact, just look outside – sunsetting over the sea, it’s hard not to be inspired.
Wow you really got straight into the repping for the Eastern Province. So, tell us a bit about what it means to you and your calling.
Well, I’m a stylist, a content-creator, sometimes a model, sometimes a photographer, but always on the lookout for opportunities to be inspired and get creative. And the Eastern Province is a great place to be for that. Here in the east, you can really feel that coastal call – whether it’s the waves, the breeze, the sunlight, or the beachy vibes. It’s chill, right? But it’s also bold, experimental, not afraid to push the boundaries of a look or a style. Whether I’m sourcing unique pieces or just people-watching at the Corniche, I see style everywhere.
Nice. Would you say Saudi Arabia is one of the most stylish places to be right now?
I’d say it definitely has its own unique style identity. I see style everywhere I go in Saudi. You know, sometimes people ask, “is there really a fashion scene here in Saudi Arabia?” And my answer is, “always, you just need to look around.” Every region has its own style, and each experience has helped me grow not just as a stylist but as a storyteller too.
How does Eastern Province differ then from, let’s say… Riyadh?
When I’m in Riyadh it is a different world. The pace picks up and so does the fashion, from fashion pop ups to late night cafes the creativity in Riyadh is always pushing forward and it’s always pushing me to be more creative. Jumping between here in the Eastern Province and Riyadh is like being in a creative playground for me.
And how does that creativity translate into opportunities?
You know, I have had the chance to be part of some amazing projects with big brands, Versace, Kenzo, Off White, Adidas, and DIOR Beauty. But for me, fashion opportunities, or getting creative with style isn’t just about clothes. It’s about storytelling, telling the story of the Eastern Province, or of Riyadh, or of anywhere in Saudi in whole looks. And the opportunities to do that are here every day, wherever you are in the Kingdom. Just come and see!
