Saudi by Saroosh: From the USA to KSA, Navigating Life as an Expat in Saudi Arabia
Saroosh’s TikTok is literally your passport to Riyadh, serving up daily vibes, cultural gems, and the lowkey magic of expat life. As a U.S.-born content creator, she’s not just adapting to the Kingdom’s rhythm; she’s remixing it.
What do you do for work, and what brought you to Saudi Arabia?
I’m a content creator, and moving here really pushed me to grow creatively. What brought me here was a mix of curiosity and opportunity. I wanted a change, and I knew there was so much to explore and share from this side of the world.
Do you think you’d still be doing content if you’d stayed in the U.S.?
Probably not in the same way. Being here has given me a fresh perspective. There’s so much to document, from the architecture and fashion to the way everyday life flows differently. It’s helped me carve out my own niche.
How would you describe the work culture here for creatives?
You have room to experiment and be bold. The creative scene is growing, and people are genuinely interested in storytelling. It’s been cool to see more brands and communities open to digital voices like mine.
Has it been easy to build friendships and a support network?
At first it felt like starting over, but once I leaned into local events and online communities, things clicked. I met one of my friends through social media here in Riyadh. It’s nice to know how shared interests can open so many doors.
What’s your idea of a perfect weekend in Saudi?
A coffee run to a local cafe, a visit to one of Riyadh’s latest events, then dinner at a rooftop spot in Olaya. Maybe filming a quick vlog of one of the latest trending places in Riyadh as well.
Any advice for creators thinking of moving to Saudi?
Come with curiosity, not assumptions. There’s an audience here that’s hungry for authentic stories, especially ones that highlight the blend of tradition and modern life. Don’t be afraid to just start.
